SUMMIT BACKGROUNDER
Mississauga Summit 2009 – from Conversation to Action
On May 26, 2009 the best minds from government, business, education, health and non-profit will assemble for Mississauga Summit 2009. Leaders from across the community will gather once again as a follow up to the brainstorming session that was Mississauga Summit 2007.
The 2007 Summit brought together international, national and local leaders to discuss topics related to sustainability, innovation and diversity. This meeting of minds was the start of a continuing process to engage local leaders in defining the future of our city.
The success of all organizations depends on educated, healthy and engaged residents. The goal of this collaborative Summit is to ensure that Mississauga remains a vibrant city where every citizen has the opportunity to thrive. This shared approach to strategic planning is more critical than ever as Mississauga faces the challenges of the current economic climate.
With this in mind, the Summit team has identified four key priorities for action. The 2009 Summit will launch specific task forces focused on developing concrete action plans for each.
The areas of concentration include:
- Building human capital: By investing in our residents, we invest in our future. The Human Services task force will work towards ensuring that Mississauga’s social and health services meet the needs of our ever growing community.
